I really love the look of beautiful vintage bone china, unfortunately so many older pieces have chips and cracks, alas, a wonderful way to enjoy them is to use them for mosaicking. I started out with the chipped ones, then to the faded, eventually I was buying sets just to break up because I needed more than I had. It is surly a habit forming craft, the more you break the more you buy to break and it goes on and on. The outcome is a piece of art that is vintage, and will become an heirloom.
